Max Fletcher gave Cincinnati pretty much everything you could ask for from a punter against Boston College.

The Melbourne product averaged 52.3 yards per punt, hit a 70-yarder and dropped one at the Boston College 4-yard line. Then, just to make the stat line a little stranger, he caught an eight-yard pass on a fake punt to convert fourth down.

That fake punt kept the drive alive and Cincinnati went on to score a touchdown. It was also the Bearcats’ first completed pass by a non-quarterback since 2023.

Fletcher was later named to the Ray Guy Award’s Ray’s 8 for the week after combining distance, placement and one very unexpected reception.

He already came into the season with a strong college résumé after earning All-Big 12 honours in 2025, and this was a pretty sharp way to start 2026.

For Australian fans, it is another reminder that some of the best contributions from Australians in college football are coming in the kicking game — and occasionally, apparently, in the passing game too.
